Imaginative and creative play
At Wildwood UK, we create wildlife habitats as well as play structures to bring life up close to children whilst they play. Many of the young people in the UK spend most of their time playing on tarmac, fake grass or pavements. These manufactured environments stifle creativity and imaginative play. We want to remove the barriers that exist between nature and people.
Wild natural play
To put the ‘natural’ in natural play we need to include nature. The term natural play is widely used now and is often applied to wooden manufactured play equipment. To us at Wildwood UK, it is much deeper than that. Natural play can occur anywhere and it doesn’t necessarily need a play structure for it to happen.
Benefits of natural play
We think it’s important for children to play in nature. A woodland, a wildflower meadow, or a small stream and these are all natural play areas. The life skills and learning opportunities this presents are endless and it’s all coupled with the scientifically proven, healing power of nature. This is the vital part of play that’s missing from most manufactured play areas, but that’s where we come in.
Just under a third of all young people in the UK play outside and when they do, they are mainly at school where play is often confined to tarmac and pavements
